Hoy - Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Short version: Hoy has no server of mine. Your messages, files, and recordings travel through your own iCloud account and never touch my infrastructure. I can't read them, and I couldn't hand them over if someone asked. The only personal data I ever hold is what you send me by email, plus what my payment provider needs to sell you a license.
1. Who is responsible
STUDIO DK01, s.r.o.
IČO 23283661
Sokolská třída 1615/50, Moravská Ostrava, 702 00 Ostrava, Czech Republic
hello@heyiam.dk
We are the data controller for the processing described here.
2. Your content in Hoy
Everything you send through Hoy (messages, files, voice messages, video notes, screen recordings) is stored and transmitted exclusively through Apple's iCloud using CloudKit, under your own iCloud account and those of the people in your channels.
There is no Hoy server. We do not receive, store, process, or have any technical means of accessing your content. We cannot view it, moderate it, recover it if it's lost, or delete it on request, because we never have it.
Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple's privacy policy and terms. Channels you host count against your own iCloud storage.
Voice messages are transcribed on your device using Apple's Speech framework. The audio is not sent anywhere for transcription, and the transcript stays with the message in your iCloud like any other content.
3. Purchases
Hoy Pro is sold through Polar (polar.sh), acting as merchant of record. When you buy a license, Polar collects your email address, payment details, and the billing information needed for tax purposes. Polar is the controller for that data and processes it under its own privacy policy.
From Polar we receive only what's needed to issue and validate your license: your email address, the license key, and your purchase and subscription status. We never receive your payment card details.
4. Software updates
Hoy checks heyiam.dk for updates using Sparkle. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and the app version to the server. We don't use these requests to build profiles or identify individual users.
5. The website
We run no analytics, no tracking scripts, and no advertising cookies. The only measurement on the site is a counter of how many times the download file has been fetched. It's a total number and isn't tied to individuals.
6. Email
If you write to hello@heyiam.dk, we keep your message and address so we can answer you and follow up on bugs or feedback. Legal basis: legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Support correspondence is deleted once it's no longer useful, typically within two years.
We may use the email address associated with your license to send you occasional updates about Hoy, and about other apps we make. These are infrequent and always relevant to the products you own.
You can opt out at any time, either through the unsubscribe link in any such email or by writing to hello@heyiam.dk, and we'll stop immediately.
We do not send marketing to people who have only downloaded the free version and never contacted us, and we never pass your address to anyone else for their marketing.
7. What we don't do
No analytics or telemetry inside the app. No tracking. No advertising. No profiling or automated decision-making. We don't sell or share personal data, and we don't pass it to anyone beyond the providers named above.
8. Your rights
Under GDPR you may request access to your personal data, correction, erasure, restriction of processing, or portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to hello@heyiam.dk and we'll respond within one month.
This applies to the data we actually hold, which is email correspondence and license records. It can't apply to your Hoy content, because that lives in your iCloud and we have no access to it. For that, contact Apple or manage it directly on your devices.
If you believe we've handled your data improperly, you can complain to the Czech data protection authority, Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz).
9. Children
Hoy isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Material changes affecting existing customers will be announced on heyiam.dk.
